Free On-Line Introductory Course ('MOOC') in Philosophy

In January 2013 we launched our first 'Massive Open On-Line Course' ( 'MOOC') in Philosophy, entitled 'Introduction to Philosophy'. The course was a tremendous success, attracting 100,000 enrolments from people from all four corners of the world, and from lots of different age groups. Since then we've been revising the content of the course and producing an accompanying textbook, Philosophy for Everyone.

More successes for our Introduction to Philosophy MOOC!

A 17 years old US teenager with severe autism enrolled in our own Introduction to Philosophy MOOC says it was a genuine  life-changing experience! The ongoing contact with professors and with other students really made the difference!

Lots of Eidyn events are kicking off this week!

The Computational Mind Reading Group starts this Wednesday (18th Sept) in Dugald Stewart Building, room 1.01. The group will read and comment S. Russell and P. Norvig.Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach. Pearson, Upper Saddle River, NJ, 3rd edition, 2010.

2nd Extended Knowledge Workshop – 'Varieties of Externalism'

The Workshop will explore the different varieties of 'externalism' both in epistemology and philosophy of mind. Indicatively, some of the specific topics to be addressed will be the connections between 'content externalism' and 'vehicle externalism', 'content externalism' and ' epistemological externalism',and 'vehicle externalism' and 'epistemological externalism'.

Our 'Massive Open On-Line Course' ( 'MOOC') in Philosophy, entitled "Introduction to Philosophy", begins on the 14th of October 2013, and registration is still open. The course has modules in epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, ethics, and metaphysics. Several faculty members who run Eidyn research projects are involved, such as Dr Matthew Chrisman, Dr Allan Hazlett, Dr Suilin Lavelle, Dr Michela Massimi, and Prof Duncan Pritchard.

Academic Visitor: PETER FOSL

Professor Peter Fosl is currently visiting Eidyn as David Hume Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) - University of Edinburgh.

New Eidyn Knowledge Exchange Officer
