EIDYN is delighted to announce a new prize for impact and outreach in philosophy for Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH) students and applicants.
The Scottish Outreach and Impact in Philosophy Prize 2016 will award a £500 cash prize to the best impact/ outreach proposal from a current SGSAH philosophy student or a 2016-17 applicant.
The prize is the brainchild of Dr Tillmann Vierkant, senior lecturer in philosophy of mind and cognition at the University of Edinburgh and a member of the SGSAH admissions panel.
Dr Vierkant says: "We felt there was a real need first, to raise awareness of the important role that impact and outreach play for careers in academic philosophy today, and second, to make sure that we recognise and reward the fantastic ideas that many of our students already have in this area."
The award will be presented at an impact and outreach workshop in Edinburgh on 30th November, bringing together SGSAH Philosophy students and their supervisors to provide both training and recognition of engagement and outreach work.
The prize is generously funded by SGSAH and by EIDYN, with support from the Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stirling.
